About Jai Pyne
Jai Pyne is a composer, producer, songwriter and artist living and working on unceded Gadigal/Wangal land in Sydney.
He has always made music that sits at the intersection of art and pop, striving to include the best elements of each into his practice; which through his work as a composer includes compositions and sound for award winning films, art works, web series and contemporary dance.
Recent work includes documentary ‘The Truth About The Telegraph’ (2024) directed by Kieran Mpetyane Satour for first nations creative agency Garuwa, sound installation ‘Arkan & Irbela’ with artist Gabi Briggs at West Space and ‘Yamandirra’ a visual poem installed at The Coal Loader Centre For Sustainability in collaboration with Nathan Mudyi Sentance and Kieran Mpetyane Satour, ‘Yana Djamaga Ganji/Walk Good FIre’ by Clancy Walker/Adam Nye (Wildscreen 2024, Far South Film festival 2024)., ‘Mate’ directed by George-Alex Nagle (Grand Prix, best International Film, Clermont Film festival 2022, Melbourne International Film Festival ‘22, Palm Springs International Film Festival ‘22, Sydney Film Festival ‘22).
With his band The Paper Scissors (2006-2012), Jai produced several critically acclaimed releases and performed at Falls Festival, Peat’s Ridge Festival, Sydney Theatre Company and other iconic Australian venues. Jai’s work with The Paper Scissors was synced to high profile television shows including Underbelly Season 1 and numerous advertisements. The Paper Scissors last album ‘In Loving Memory’ was described as “a feat of originality and discipline”.
