Still from Holding Space by Ryan Andrew Lee

Hello friends and associates.

Here’s some news from the past few months- Autumn/Winter vibes.

Stu-Stu-Studio

After almost 4 years under the flight path in St Peters, I moved into a new space in Church Street Studios, Camperdown. It’s lovely to be in this historic and humming (not literally, that was my last studio) space with so many great composers. Side note- its the space where Blinky Bill was created so that’s cool. I have a little piano in my room and the instrument library holds some magical, weird and wonderful instruments that I don’t know how to play but have still made their way onto some scores and into some pieces. Also its a much safer and more pleasant commute on my bicycle so that’s also nice.

My brother Arlo came and tool some portraits as you see above.

Yirramboi

I was stoked to be asked to do some music and sound for a few pieces at Yirramboi which is a massive bi-annual First nations festival in Naarm. This took place all over Melbourne city in May, and I went down for the weekend and caught some shows and saw some of the exhibitions and films. I was lucky enough to be invited to some smoking ceremonies and meet some of the Dja Dja Warrung and Yorta Yorta folks who made some of the works I collaborated on.

Holding Space is a beautiful film which was installed at Queen Victoira Women’s centre- directed by Apryl Day and Jirra Lulla. It was a real pleasure to learn about Cummeragunja- a mission on on the Dhungala (Murray River) and the amazing cast of people that live there/are in the film.

I also made music and sound for Banj Ba Walllert a film that honours Auntie Vicki Nicholson-Brown and her revival and practice of possum skin drumming.
This was directed by Stacie Nicholson-Piper. Below is a picture of the film playing at Fed Square.

Both of these films were produced by Garuwa

Motherhood In The Colony

I was honoured to be asked to mix Motherhood In The Colony- a truth telling feature doco: that brings eight First Nations and Palestinian women together unravelling stories of colonial trauma, and mothering as an act of resistance, while inviting audiences to listen, learn, and envision a future beyond the oppressive structures of colonisation. This recently won ‘best achievement in Indigenous filmmaking’ at St Kilda Film festival. Check the website- you can watch on Kinema. Directed by Genevieve Grieves (Worimi) and Aseel Tayah (Palestine).

Upcoming Projects

I am working on a contemporary dance work with my friend and long time collaborator Anton called Cycle Cyclops this will be part of the Impact Festival presented by Catapult Dance on Awabakal country/Lake Macquarie more info here . This is super fun, been writing some really wild stuff, challenging myself with some time signatures that may or may not mess with the dancers. This is on in late August.

I am also working on a kids animation/live action thing which I can’t really talk about yet but it’s fun!

ANY OTHER NEWS?
Not really that much! A few other projects which you can check out on my website or instagram for more frequent news news. I made it to a few films at Sydney Film Festival last month- Farming The Revolution was the best one I saw. I’m going to see ADT’s new show Marrow at Carriageworks next week, looking foreward to that. I’ve been listening to the score by James Howard (Jaadwa) which bangs. Besides that, I’ve been making lots of bread currently with delicious Woodtstock flour milled in NSW, haven’t been getting enough waves, have been cycling a GT Outpost 90’s MTB which I’ve been tinkering with. Ok congrats and thanks for reading this far! Drop me a line- I’ve got time after August for projects if anyone needs music or sound. Let me know!

THANKS FOR READING!!!!!! Hit me an email if you wanna say hi or hire me for a project!
